The Boston Bash!

On Saturday January 16th we had a blast with family and friends celebrating Boston's 1st birthday! We played some volleyball, had a tractor pinata, watched Boston open presents, and make a huge mess of his own personal chocolate cake! I can't believe a year has already gone by since Boston joined our family! This past year has probably been the best year of my life, and it just keeps getting better! I love watching him grow and learn new things. I get so excited every time he learns something new. This week the new and exciting thing he has started doing is waving to people. It's adorable. I can't wait until he starts talking, and I get to laugh at all the funny things he says.

We also got to enjoy some of this cute tractor cake I made! It was a lot of fun to make, and not as hard as it looks! I was so happy that it turned out! I was nervous about it. The hardest part is finding something to elevate the tractor and wagon, and Scott did that part.

Here is a front view of the cake. I bought two lemon heads for the headlights. I think the cashier thought it was interesting that I was buying just two pieces of candy. Ha ha. I thought why waste a couple bucks on a whole bag of candy when I can spend 4 pennies instead?

Another side view of the cake. Sorry for all the cake pictures. The only thing that made me feel better about cutting up and eating a cake that I worked so hard on was knowing that it was saved forever in pictures.

Here is the birthday boy with his cute tractor shirt and hat, and a bunch of his cousins on the Fitzgerald side. Boston is the 3rd youngest cousin out of 13 on the Fitzgerald side.

Cute cousins. They were all excited to wear their tractor hats for about five minutes. At least we got some cute pictures in them! They were worth it for that. Left to right: Cade, Arrianne, Boston, Marissa, and Brooke.

Family picture! Boston just wanted to play.

Boston would much rather play with his hat than wear it. Who invented wearing cones on your head for birthday parties anyway?

This is my friend Sherstin and her fiance Trevor. I am so excited for them to get married in February! They babysit Boston for us sometimes when we go to the temple. They are such awesome babysitters! Sherstin and I are running buddies. We did our very first marathon together in 2005, and we've been best friends since.

Mr. John Deere tractor pinata.

Savannah taking a swing at the pinata.

The present table with Boston's very own chocolate cake. We got it for free from Macey's. Just so everyone knows, Macey's does free first birthday cakes!

Boston got spoiled! Thanks everyone for all the fun gifts! He seriously loves them all! He has been playing with them the past few days.

Grandma Heidi, and Boston making his "OH" face. He loves to say "OH!" all the time.

Grandpa Billings and Boston with their matching blue eyes.

Scott catching up with some friends from high school.

Playing a little volleyball.

Some more volleyball. Look at little Cade. He wants to play with the big people. If there's a ball he's there. He's going to be one good athlete someday. It's amazing to see what this little 3 year old can already do with anything relating to sports.

Just hanging out. I wish I knew what we were so enthralled about. There's obviously something interesting going on in the part of the picture that we can't see.

Aunt Kristen, Great-Aunt Karla, and her friend Jon.

Scott's best friend from high school, Trace, got to meet Boston for the first time.

Aunt Jay and Boston.

Cute cousin Alex. The closest boy cousin his age.

And now for the cake smash. He just sat there forever with his hands in the cake like this. It was almost like he thought he was stuck there or something. I think he was just enjoying the crowd of attention around him though.

He eventually got his hands unstuck and got to work. He was loving every minute of this.

All the cousins wanted to help feed him.

He did a good job making sure every bit of that cake was destroyed.

His work here is finished.

Me and my messy birthday boy. What a mess to clean up! He's trying to eat as much of that cake as he can before I clean him up!

There were a couple funny things that I want to remember about his little cake smash. After he was done smashing the cake he got up on his hands and feet and started circling around the remains of the cake like a gorilla. I had no idea what he was doing, but it sure was hilarious.

The next memory is not as funny as the first, but it still makes me smile thinking about it. It was kind of crazy being in charge of the birthday party and a little one year old at the same time. After Boston had smashed the cake, everyone was past being patient waiting to eat the tractor cake I had made, so I hurried over to cut the cake. After I was done cutting the cake I found Boston on the messy gym floor by himself happily eating the remains of his destroyed cake. I was pretty grossed out at the thought of my baby eating cake off a gym floor, and wondering just how much sugar he had ingested. I just thought it was cute that he looked so content and happy to sit there by himself and eat cake off the floor. I'm sure he would have sat there much longer and probably have eaten the whole cake if I had let him!

Thanks everyone who came and celebrated with us! We had a blast!

Happy Birthday Boston!!! I wanted to comment today, since today is his birthday! Can you believe it's been a year since our boys were born? It just flew right by. We should get the boys together to play sometime. Josh just got called to the singles ward bishopric so we won't get to see you guys in church anymore. :( Hope Boston has a great birthday!
