Boston's first soccer season ended a few weeks ago, and he loved it. Now he's excited to give basketball a try starting next Saturday.
Boston played on the super pee-wee league this season with the 3 and 4 year olds. He was one of the oldest in the league, but next year he'll play in the pee-wee league with 5 and 6 year olds so he'll be one of the youngest. Too bad he won't be able to keep his same coach next year since he's moving into a different league because we really liked his coach.
Boston's very externally motivated right now. The main things he wanted out of this soccer season were his medal and his trophy. After each game one of the players earned a medal based on what the team was learning about that day. Boston earned his medal on the day they were learning about being a team player because he was doing a good job passing the ball to his teammates. Although, in the weeks following he needed a few more lessons on being a team player because he stole the ball away from his teammates a couple times so he could score instead of them. Then he got in a little argument with one of his teammates over who was the one that really scored the goal. It was kind of hilarious to watch these two little four year olds yelling and pushing each other on the field over who scored the goal. We had a few talks with him about teamwork, but I'm not sure if it sunk in yet.
The last day of soccer they had two games in a row. Boston was so excited because it was finally the day he would earn his trophy that he had been waiting for all season. We told him he had to play really well so he could earn his trophy. We noticed a huge improvement from his first game to his last. During the first few games he had a hard time focusing the entire time. He got distracted very easily by dirt and airplanes and would forget to watch where the ball was. In his last game he did a really good job staying focused and watching the ball. It payed off because he was able to score 5 goals between the two games, which was more than he had scored all season.
After the games they handed out the trophies and had pizza for the kids. Notice how intently Boston has his eye on the trophy as he's walking towards it. Ha ha.
Still can't get his eyes off of it.
And he's still staring at it. Ha ha. He was so proud.
We made a bathroom stop on the way home at a restaurant and he brought his trophy in with him, beaming from ear to ear, hoping someone would say something about it. It was cute. He carried it around for a few days showing it off any chance he got.
We're glad he had a fun first soccer season because we had fun watching him! We're excited to see how basketball will go. It should be interesting considering that this age barely has enough coordination for soccer, but Boston's really excited about it.
