I can't believe we just barely used our dutch oven that we got as a wedding gift five years ago. Our ward camping trip was last weekend, so the night before we decided to practice using our dutch oven on our back porch to see how long it would take to cook our dinner. We did potatoes, green beans, carrots, mushrooms, and chicken with spices. We ended up bringing that dinner with us on the camping trip and just re-heating it in the dutch oven once we got to the campground. It was pretty yummy. We love dutch oven cooking, so we're excited to experiment more with it.
We camped at Government Canyon which is only about ten minutes from our house. We really need to go there more often. It's so close! It's been a lot harder to find time to camp as a family since Scott has been busy camping with the Scouts.
Boston was in the best mood ever once we were in the car and on the way to go camping. He loves it so much.
Boston kept picking wildflowers for me while we were walking around. He is such a sweet boy.
Right next to our campsite was a family in our ward that has three boys, so Boston had fun running around and exploring with them.
We took the boys on a hike after dinner to get them nice and worn out before bed. It was so nice to be outside enjoying the nice weather and walking around!
Boston enjoyed his s'mores. Can you tell?
The next morning I met my friend Stacie for a trail run. I think I'm going to start running here more often because we have a State Parks pass that gets us in for free. I should have been running here the past two and a half years that we've lived here! Trail running is so fun, and this place is closer than where I usually run on Saturdays.
The ward provided breakfast burritos in the morning, and then we had a little Easter egg hunt for the kids.
I got back from my run just in time for the Easter egg hunt. After that Boston ran around and played with some kids in the ward while the moms talked, and Scott left for a ten mile hike with the Scouts. The youth are doing a temple trek next weekend, April 13th and walking 22 miles from our stake center to the temple! They are required to do at least one ten mile walk before the temple trek, so that's why Scott took the Scouts on a ten mile hike after the ward campout.
Yay for a fun, but too short, family camping trip! We can't wait to do it again.
